Merry Christmas

My family and I are traveling for Christmas this year.  Here in Texas the temperatures really haven't been bad so far, but in Illinois where we are heading it looks like it will be a white Christmas!  I have never had a white Christmas nor has my daughter so we are truly excited. My daughter swears were going to build Olaf in grandma and grandpa's front year. We can't wait. I hope each and every one of my readers has a wonderful Christmas and a blessed new year!

Technical Difficulties II

I am still having a few technical difficulties, and so am working from my iPad as best I can. Turns out I will have to replace both my hard drive and the computers screen.  Thankfully my backup contained the majority of my files, but you will notice my blog design has drastically changed. I lost most of my blog design files so I'm currently shopping for new designs. If you know of any good graphics designers let me know.

Technical Difficulties

It's been a few days since my last post. My laptop took a bath in soda and unfortunately my hard drive didn't make it. I am trying not to think about what I may have lost, and instead remember how blessed I am. Please excuse my tardiness but I hope to be back up and running by Monday!

Creative Frustration

I don't know about other creatives, but sometimes I find myself stuck.  Has that ever happened to you?  Today has simply been one of those days.  It seems no matter how hard I try nothing really gels for me.  What tricks do you employ when your stuck?  I would love to hear from you!

Happy Thanksgiving

I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving! As we take time to remember everything we are thankful for let us also be mindful of those who may not be surrounded by family and friends this year. If you can take a few minutes and call that elderly neighbor or single parent and let them know they are not alone.  You'll be surprised the difference it can make.

Semii

While most of my scrapbooking consists of layouts about family and friends I have a few special sections devoted to our beloved pets.  Mr. Semii our short haired tabby is turning 11 years old soon and this layout is devoted solely to him.  He is long on personality and short on patience.  He prefers that his food bowl is never empty, and he always turns the water bowl over before drinking from it.  However despite his quirks we love him. Happy Birthday Semii here's too a few more good years.

Catching Air

This month our family went to Sweet Berry Farms in Marble Falls, Texas to check out this years pumpkin patch. My daughter, Alexaundra, loves to go each year to pick out just the right pumpkin.  This year she found a lot more than a pumpkin.  They had face painting, scarecrow stuffing, pumpkin painting, and these really big pillows for the kids to jump on. They were like jumbo inflated trampolines in the middle of a field. As you can see in the two page layout below she had a blast!  I created this Project Life spread using the new Project Life App by Becky Higgins in conjunction with art by Rhonda Designs.  The app is available for both Android and iOS devices. I hope you enjoy!

Scrapbook Planning Pages

If your like me you absolutely hate disorganization.  In fact, I find that this carries over into all aspects of my life.  When scrapbooking I have noticed that I accomplish more when I have taken the time to plan ahead.  However until recently I was doodling sketches on grid paper.  These sketches did help tremendously when I was creating my pages, but they were difficult to collect and keep to fall back on.  I scrapbook for my family and for others so I would often wish I had access to the sketches I used in my family albums when creating pages for others.  I decided it was time to get organized.  I searched blogs and the internet for planning pages, but was unable to find one that I liked so I decided I would try to create one myself.  The was the result.  To download your own copy click on the link below.

We took a family trip this summer to Sea World in San Antonio, Texas. My daughter absolutely loves animals and was so excited to go. This layout features images of my daughter at their Sea Lion and Seals area in the park. If you have little ones I highly recommend going. We had a great time please enjoy.

Time Flies

Good Evening.  I wanted to share a layout about my father this evening.  It seems fitting that the first layout I share to my blog is one about him because he was always a source of support and motivation for me.  When he was alive he was both my greatest supporter and my best critic.  He had no problem telling me exactly what he thought of a piece whether that was good or bad and I respected him for that.  If you have someone like that you know exactly how great that is! I love and miss him everyday.

Creating Keepsakes Convention

Its been a few weeks since my last post and I thank you for your patience.  I just returned from the Creating Keepsakes Scrapbook Convention today and wanted to take the time to share a little bit about the experience.  First, if you have never gone I would recommend taking the time to experience this convention at least once.  Preregistration while not absolutely necessary is something I would recommend.  That way your sure to get the classes you want at the time that is most convenient for you.  That said I can tell you that the instructors were very gracious to allow additional people into classes that were already listed as full provided their was enough physical space to accommodate the additions.

One of the things I enjoyed most about the experience was the ability to see new products prior to their release dates.  These included new bling from Queen and Company, new washi tape designs for the coming holiday season from several manufacturers, and an adorable new baby line by Simple Stories.  The vendor floor while at times congested showcased new stamps from Stamps of Life, and new designs from The Paper Loft among others.  Stampin' Up! provided the preregistration goodies this year which included a cute Paper Pumpkin kit we could use to create eight thank you cards.  In addition to informative classes and new product debuts Creating Keepsakes hosted two packed celebration crops with dozens upon dozens of giveaways.  I can honestly say that I myself won four or five times throughout the weekend.  Who doesn't love freebies.  In closing I recommend staying at the hotel connected to the convention center even at a higher rate because loading and unloading cropping bags/totes throughout the day is both tedious and exhausting.

P.S. You can click on each of the underlined hyperlinks embedded in the post to get more information from those manufacturers listed and the Creating Keepsakes team too.  Enjoy!

Thank You

Thank you to everyone who so kindly commented on the previous post to allow me to evaluate current comment properties for this blog.  It has come to my attention that Google is now requiring users to have a Google+ profile to comment on a Google+ profile enabled blog.  While I love being able to share more content with readers via Google+ I do not like that it is excluding those without accounts from commenting.  As a result I have decided to integrate my blog within my new hosted website later this year.  If you currently follow me or read my blog know that I truly appreciate each and every one of you and I will update you prior to the move.  Thank you!

Testing...One...Two

Good evening friends if you would be so kind and help me test my comments functionality here on the blog.  I have been working on a new website for Kat Creates and will soon be connecting to the blog portion of the site.  Before doing so I need to ensure that I have all my little ducks in a row so if you would please leave a comment below letting me know you where here today I would really appreciate it.  This allows me to test the comments and tweak them before I go live with the new site.

Back to School

I have spent the past few days thinking about the best way to capture this years first day of school memories.  Last year I used a small chalkboard to indicate what grade my daughter was starting.  The photos were cute but I really want a more creative element this year. Anyone have any ideas they have tried successfully?

Ladybug Birthday

While only a portion of this post involves papercrafting I felt some of you would enjoy seeing how this party came together. My client ask for a ladybug themed birthday party for her granddaughter's first birthday.  Originally all she ask me to create were the party invitations, but at the last minute the young woman who was scheduled to bake the cakes and cookies had to have emergency heart surgery.  So I agreed to create the treats and eats in addition to the invites.

Camera Bags

I have spent many hours searching for a beautiful but functional camera bag.  Anyone have any suggestions?  I have seen those by Epiphany but really don't want to pay that much for one.  I have heard that Jo Totes makes a few very pretty ones but I am not sure how sturdy they are.  I would welcome any feedback anyone may be able to offer.  I currently have a Canon Rebel Ti5 DSL camera with one 18mm - 55mm lens and another 5mm - 250mm lens.  I am hoping to find a bag that will also accommodate my fourth generation IPad for quick editing on the go.

Prayers for Fort Hood Families

My prayers are with the families of those affected by the shooting on Fort Hood this evening.  I hope the situation draws to a close soon and that those injured recover fully.  May God bring comfort to the families of those who have died.

Persnickety Prints

If you like Digital Scrapbooking, Project 365, or other digital creation tools than I recommend checking out Persnickity Prints by following the attached link.  The print all the popular Scrapbooking sizes as well as cards you create for Project Life.  The Polaroid style 3" x 4" cards created by the Collect app discussed in my previous post can be printed through them too.  What I love about this company is their archival printing system and attention to detail! When you spend hours on your work you want to see the best prints possible and they deliver.

Project 365

Good morning, I made a resolution this year to start a 365 photo project. It consists of taking one photo everyday for a year.  I had tried something similar before and found that I enjoyed the unique perspective it gave me about everyday life.  It helped me slow down and just enjoy. Unfortunately I didn't have a good way to keep them organized so I didn't complete the whole year.  This year will be different! First I found a great app called Collect which keeps ever photo organized by date, tags, and month.  It even allows me to export a beautiful Polaroid style card for each day of the year complete with journaling to my photos for later printing.  They are sized 3"x4" which can be placed on traditional scrapbook layouts or fit perfectly in Project Life pocket pages.  Here is an example of what one of the cards looks like after exporting.  Enjoy!

Live in the Moment

Have you ever had one of those moments that you just wanted to scrapbook but you weren't sure how to since you had no pictures of the actual moment?  One of those special moments happened just the other day when my daughter brought me her little stuffed lamb and told me I could sleep with her in case I got lonely.  She is growing up so fast and I just wish she would stay little a little bit longer. I have to remind myself ever once in a while to just breath and take each day as it comes. In this instance she caught me off guard and I couldn't help but get a little teary. I wanted to remember exactly how she made me feel in this moment even years from now.  So when she jumped off to bed I pulled out my iPad and started looking for an app to journal, but instead I found Rhonda Designs.  This app fit the bill perfectly!  I could take a picture of me and little Lamby and using the stamps and fonts Rhonda's app provides illustrate the moment and save it as a photo in my Project 365 app. I think this app is now my favorite Scrapbooking companion. Here is what I created. I would highly recommend anyone who shares my enthusiasm for remaining in the moment give this app a look.  It's available on the App Store under Rhonda Designs.
